Concero began as a technology company in 1999, offering associations and affinity
groups hosted web-based transaction software to consolidate the administration of
insurance programs with multiple insurance carriers and products. Tailored to include
the specific carriers and products for each association, our system provides online
quoting, enrollment, underwriting, purchasing, change processing, consolidated bill
preparation and presentation and electronic eligibility feeds. Typically, associations
either provide these types of services themselves or utilize others (insurance brokers,
insurance carriers, third party administrators, or some combination of these) to
provide them, but they are rarely automated.
With the success of the initial technology solution, some of our clients approached
us about providing customer service for their program administration. And so, Concero
became a third-party administrator, combining its own software systems with an experienced
customer service staff for eligibility management and premium collection.
Today, we describe ourselves as an electronic third party administrator, or “eTPA,”
specializing in association and affinity market insurance programs.
Beginning in 2004, Concero developed and launched ePR.Live, its on-line benefit
reporting and remittance system for contractors and their employees. The system
simplifies required reporting, improves efficiency and eliminates duplication of
entries, provides an audit trail and reduces errors.
In 2007, Concero was retained by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Montana (BCBS MT) to
develop and launch BlueKey, a private-labeled web portal for new business and renewal
processing. The new sales portion of the portal allows BCBS MT and its agents to
access the carrier’s community small group products for purposes of index quoting,
electronic underwriting, final quoting, proposal and enrollment. The system also
offers sales management tools. In addition, BlueKey allows BCBS MT agents to process
small group renewals online. Not only are sales and renewals processed faster and
with greater efficiency, but the ability to make a sale and service a customer from
the office without having to drive long distances is really proving to be a boon
to agents and BCBS MT staff.
